One day, as Akbar held court, a traveler arrived with a small, radiant bird in a golden cage. The bird was like nothing anyone had ever seen – its feathers shimmered with colors that changed in the light, and it had piercing, intelligent eyes. The traveler bowed and explained, “This bird is from another world, and it has the power to predict the future.”
Intrigued, Akbar ordered the bird brought closer. The bird looked at him and then spoke in a clear, melodic voice, “I can answer three questions about the future, but only those who seek truth without greed will understand.”
Akbar turned to his ministers. “What questions should we ask?” But before anyone could answer, Birbal stepped forward with a thoughtful smile. “Jahapana,” he said, “Why not ask about the future of our kingdom?”
The bird cocked its head and answered, “Your kingdom will thrive as long as kindness and justice guide your heart.”
Satisfied, Akbar was ready for the second question. Birbal suggested, “Why not ask about your family’s happiness, O Emperor?”
The bird replied, “Your family’s happiness will mirror the joy you create for your people.”
Akbar nodded, feeling enlightened by the bird’s answers. For the final question, he asked, “What will happen to me in the distant future?”
The bird paused, looking deeply into Akbar’s eyes, and then said, “Your name and tales will live on in stories, but remember, wisdom in your actions will make you truly immortal.”
With that, the bird closed its eyes, turning to stone, leaving Akbar, Birbal, and the court in awe. Though it no longer spoke, the bird had left them with a timeless lesson: the future is shaped by the values of the present.
And from that day on, Akbar ruled with greater wisdom, inspired by the mysterious bird and guided by Birbal’s loyal advice.
